Randaberg Women

Randaberg go into this season in the Eliteserien, the top flight of Norwegian women's volleyball, still measured against the run they had through the middle of the last decade, when no other club in the country's history matched what they built.

The section grew out of Randaberg IL in 1970, a year after the first team had already taken shape, and it took until the 1982/83 season for the club to reach the elite division for the first time. Once there, it turned into the benchmark. The league title came twice, in 2016 and 2017, and the Norwegian Cup twice as well — beating Oslo Volley 3-0 in the 2015/16 final, then IL Koll 3-1 four years later. Between those two cup wins sat three lost finals, against Oslo Volley, Førde VBK and, most recently, IL Koll again in 2023/24, a reminder that the run of success was never as smooth as the two league titles alone suggest.

Europe has been a harder stage. Randaberg have entered the CEV Women's Challenge Cup five times since 2016/17, and their furthest point remains the round of 32, reached in 2023/24.

Home games are played at Randaberghallen, a municipal sports complex the club shares with a swimming pool rather than with any single named rival — the closest thing to a fixture with weight is the meeting with TIF Viking, also of Rogaland, though nothing in the club's history has hardened that into a proper derby.

Of the players who carried the club through its title years, Ragnhild Torgersen stayed longest, from 2014 to 2020, and won eight caps for Norway across that spell. Una Trkulja, capped four times for the national team during her two seasons at the club, later returned to Randaberg as assistant coach, the kind of path that keeps a squad's successful years within reach of the current one rather than filing them away as history.
