Match report

Levallois claimed a narrow 79-77 win over Camper in Pro B on Thursday evening, a result that does little to shift the standings. Camper remain rooted in 19th place, their position unchanged after 38 games. To be fair, the gap between them and safety has never been particularly wide. The home side started brighter, taking an early lead that held through the opening quarter. «Camped in the final third» would describe their approach, but Levallois weathered the storm. By then, the visitors had settled into their rhythm, finding spaces Camper had not closed. Camper pulled level midway through the second quarter, their inside play proving more effective than expected. «Won a dangerous free-kick» — well, free throw in basketball terms — from a hard foul gave them the edge for a period. But Levallois responded with a run that left them ahead at the break. The third quarter belonged to neither side. End-to-end action, mistakes on both ends, and the score barely moved. «The heat took the sting out of it» — if there was heat, it was the tension, not the arena. Camper then found another gear, pulling ahead by five with seven minutes left. Levallois refused to go away. A three-pointer from the wing cut the deficit to two, and a subsequent steal led to a fast-break layup for the lead. «Picked up two bookings in five minutes» — fouls, in this case — from Camper gifted them another possession. They converted. The final minutes were a blur of possessions. Camper hit a jumper to take the lead back, only for Levallois to answer with a turnaround fadeaway. «Are unbeaten in five» — not quite true, but they had found their legs. The final buzzer sounded with Levallois ahead by two. Camper's record now stands at 10 wins and 28 defeats, the points total still showing zero, which tells you everything about how the league counts things for newly promoted sides. Levallois move closer to the playoff places, though not quite there yet. «Dallied on the ball» — perhaps Camper did too much of that in the final moments. The result means little in the grand scheme. Camper's season is already over in every meaningful sense. Levallois have a chance, but the real test comes next week against a side they cannot afford to drop points against. «The away end never stopped» — if there was an away end, it was certainly loud.
