Amyntas Women

Get past the Ymittos Indoor Gymnasium's 600 seats on a good night and you understand why Amyntas' players talk about the place the way they do: a tight, loud hall that once belonged to PYRKAL before the club took it over as its own ground. It suits a side built on that scale — Amyntas Women grew out of the wider Amyntas Basketball Club in the Ymittos district of Athens back in 1950, and for most of the decades since, the work has happened quietly, in the lower tiers of Greek basketball.

Supporters call the team the Oranges, a name that needs no explaining once you see the kit. Blue and orange have stayed the club's colours through it all, and the silverware, when it has come, has tended to arrive at Athens level rather than national level: an Athens Cup won in 2016, then a league-and-cup double locally in 2018 with the Athens First Division title alongside a second Cup. Those wins built the case for a promotion push, and it landed in 2024, when Amyntas took the A2 Εθνική Κατηγορία title and moved the club up a division for the first time in its recent history.

The step up has put Amyntas in with sides like Ionikos Nikaias, Aris Kalamatas and Iraklis Thessaloniki, opponents from a level the club had been chasing for years. Staying there, rather than treating 2024 as a peak, is the job in front of them now.
