Proteas Voulas Women

Eleni Magaliou finished the 2013 cup final with fifteen points, but the detail that made the trophy worth telling apart from any other was where Proteas Voulas stood at the time: the second-tier A2 National Division. No club had won the Greek Women's Basketball Cup from below the top flight before. They beat PAOK 52–50 in Volos, and the same season they also took the A2 championship, earning promotion back to the top-tier A1 Ethniki alongside the cup.

That double capped three decades of shuttling between divisions that had defined the women's section since it started up in 1986, six years after the men's side was founded in Voula. The team climbed out of the local ESkanA league twice, in 1996–97 and again undefeated in 2006–07, and reached A1 for the first time only in 2011 off the back of a runners-up finish in A2. It did not stay: relegation followed in 2018–19, and Proteas needed another A2 title, in 2021–22, to get back to the top division, from which it has since gone on to European competition in the EuroCup Women.

The women's derby against Athinaikos carries its own weight in Athens basketball, sharpened by finals such as the 2011 Greek Cup decider, which Athinaikos won 64–61. The two are due to meet again in a Final Four in 2026.

Home games are played in a hall that seats 190, named after Georgios Gennimatas. Giorgos Daglas coached the side to the 2013 double.
