PAOK Women

PAOK's women compete in the A1 Women league and the Greek Cup, and the team has also taken part in the EuroCup Women. What it has not done is win a Greek championship or a Greek Cup. The men's section has both: league titles in 1959 and 1992, and cups in 1984, 1995 and 1999.

The club is officially called PAOK KYANA, after the cyan blue that ties it to the Constantinopolitan origins of the wider PAOK. That is an unusual name for a side whose official colours are black and white, the aspromavri. The badge is the double-headed eagle, which the club adopted after the 1929 merger with AEK Thessaloniki. The bird gives all PAOK basketball teams the nickname Dikefalos, "Double-headed eagle of the North". The women's team was founded in 1967 and carries the same emblem.

Home games are played in Pylaia, on the eastern side of Thessaloniki, at the PAOK Sports Arena. Locals call it Palatáki, "the little palace". It has 8,142 permanent seats, shared with volleyball, and about 8,500 people fit in once the temporary and standing places are counted.
