The women's basketball side is a late branch of a multi-sport organisation that Ioannina assembled on 8 July 1966, when two local clubs, AO Ioanninon and PAS Averof, merged into PAS Giannina. The basketball section came later. It carries the football club's blue and white, and the nickname the whole organisation wears in Epirus: Ajax of Epirus.

Dina Sarigiannidou has been captain since 2013. She also plays for the Greek national team.

The best result came in February 2025, in the club's first Greek Cup final. Olympiacos won it 59-51, and Giannina finished as runners-up. That placing earned a EuroCup Women qualifying tie for 2025-26. Lointek Gernika took it 151-118 on aggregate. Katerina Marini has since left for Alba Berlin, where she will play in 2026-27.

The team's home is the New Indoor Gymnasium of Ioannina in the Anatoli area, which opened in 2017, two years before the promotion.
