«Emperor»
Phaedon Matthaiou started the women's basketball section in Thessaloniki, and it was his initiative that put a team on court in 1946. It ceased activity for some years and returned to competition only in the 1980s.
The Greek Cup arrived in 1988. In 1993 the club won the Greek Youth Championship, and in 1994 it took the Greek Championship.
The team plays at the Alexandreio Melathron, also called Nick Galis Hall. Supporters know the side as the Yellow-Blacks, or Autokrator , the Emperor, after the club's yellow and black colours.
The recent story runs through the divisions. Aris won promotion in 2008–09 and played in the EuroCup Women in 2010–11. After a spell in the A2 Ethniki, the second tier, it went up again in 2015–16.
