Basket Torino

Auxilium Pallacanestro Torino had collapsed amid financial irregularities and a tax-fraud investigation by the Guardia di Finanza. Sardara's answer was to take the Serie A2 sporting title from his Cagliari academy and move it to Piedmont. That is how Basket Torino came into being in 2019.

He bought 75% of the shares. The other 25% went to a local consortium called "Una Mole di Basket", so a Sardinian owner and a group from Turin share the club. The name, Reale Mutua Basket Torino, carries the sponsor's, and the yellow and blue of the Gialloblù nod to both the sponsor and the city.

The club plays in Serie A2, the second tier. The Pala Alpitour holds about 12,300 for basketball. For some games the team has moved to the PalaRuffini, which holds around 3,500.

Turin also has a second basketball side, Pallacanestro Torino, and matches between the two are billed as the "Derby del Basket Torinese". Pallacanestro Biella is the older regional rival.

The new club has no major honours of its own. Its history comes from Auxilium, which reached the FIBA Korać Cup final in 1976 and lost the 2018 Italian Supercup final.
