Pistoia

PalaCarrara was called PalaFermi until it changed its name, and it holds 3,916 people.

That name came from a collapse. Olimpia Basket Pistoia, the city's historic side, folded in 1999. A year later a new club took its place, put together from the youth club Samarkanda Pistoia Basket and the sporting title bought from Pallacanestro Castenaso. In 2006–07 it won the Legadue (Serie B1) playoffs and the Campionato d'Italia Dilettanti in the same season, and that took it into Legadue, the second tier.

In 2012–13 Pistoia beat Brescia in the playoff final and reached Serie A for the first time in its modern history. Antonio Graves was central to that run, and Dwight Hardy had been named the league's MVP the season before. Two of the club's American players went on to bigger stages: Jarvis Varnado, at Pistoia in 2010–11, won an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2013, and Brad Wanamaker left after 2013–14 for the Boston Celtics.

Relegation followed, and so did a second return. In 2022–23 Pistoia won the Serie A2 playoffs against Torino and went back up. Two years before that, it had won the Supercoppa LNP di Serie A2 against Treviglio.

The derby is with Libertas Livorno, the Tuscan Derby, and each side has its own ultras: Baraonda Biancorossa in Pistoia, the Sbandati in Livorno.

The best-known name from the academy is Gianluca Della Rosa, who became a long-term starter and captain. Tommaso Della Rosa, also a youth product, later took over as head coach.
