«The Greens»
Two Stara Zagora clubs, Botev and Lokomotiv, merged in 1958.
The 2021 season carried extra weight, when the league, the Bulgarian Cup and the ABA League Women all went to Stara Zagora in the same year. The cup followed a similar pattern either side of it, won in 2020 and 2022 as well, and the club took the regional ABA League Women crown twice, in 2019 and 2021.
Games against Yambol carry their own name, the Beroe-Yambol Derby, and the form book tends to go out of the window when the two sides meet. The Municipal Sports Hall in Stara Zagora, known to locals for years under its old name DZU, holds the crowd for those nights, seating around 1,300.
Tanya Gateva coached the team through that run of consecutive league and cup wins before stepping away in 2023, handing the side to Zhaklin Zlatanova, who had played for the club herself. On court through those years, Violina Kocheva was named the country's best female player for the 2017-18 season, the kind of individual honour that tends to follow a team already winning everything else.
