In 2024, ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq beat Basket Landes in the final to take the French league title. Kennedy Burke was named the league's most valuable player, and Rachid Meziane coached the side.

The first league title had come in 2017, against Lattes-Montpellier. Frédéric Dusart was the coach, and Johanne Gomis captained a team that also included Kamila Štěpánová and Laetitia Kamba. The club, founded in 1987, had by then already been to Europe's second-tier final: it won the EuroCup Women in 2014–15 and lost the final a year later. It won that competition again in 2024–25.

The domestic cups have been less kind. The club lost the Coupe de France final in 2003, 2008 and 2014, and finished second in the Match des Champions, the French Super Cup, in 2017 and again in 2024–25.

Known as Les Guerrières, they play in red and white. Their nearest rivals are Aulnoye-Aymeries and Arras, both a short drive away in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, though the fixtures carry no derby name.

Le Palacium in Villeneuve-d'Ascq held 1,750 spectators until renovations finished in January 2021. It now seats 2,300.
