The 2021 Ligue Féminine 2 title reached Angers without a final. The pandemic cancelled the playoffs, so the second-tier trophy, the club's second after 2013, came from a season that was simply stopped. Angers went up to the top flight for 2021–22, four years after leaving it.

That exit came in 2017, at the end of four seasons in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB). The club had gone up in 2013 under David Girandière, who coached the team from 2009 to 2016. Once relegated, Angers rebuilt its academy rather than buying its way back, and the 2021 promotion followed from that work.

Union Féminine Angers Basket 49 was formed on 30 January 2004 from the women's sections of Étoile d'Or Saint-Léonard, founded in 1945, and Angers Basket Club, founded in 1982. Before the first promotion it collected the Trophée Coupe de France, the cup for lower-division sides, in 2010 and 2012.

In 2022–23 Angers reached the quarter-finals of the EuroCup Women, and in 2023–24 they reached the quarter-finals of the LFB playoffs. Aurélie Bonnan has been head coach through 2024 and beyond. The squads have carried WNBA names such as Shenita Landry, Nikki Greene and Oderah Chidom, along with Olympic medallist Adaora Elonu.

The Salle Jean Bouin, where the Angevines play in white and violet, holds about 3,000.
