Winning the Ronchetti Cup in 1995 made Bourges Basket the first French team to lift a FIBA women's title.

None of that came easily against Valenciennes. Through the second half of the 1990s and into the early 2000s the two sides met again and again in league finals and EuroLeague ties, and for a period the outcome of the French season ran through those games as much as through anyone else's form. Montpellier has since taken up that role.

The club began in 1967 as Cercle Jean-Macé Bourges, a general sports association, and only turned toward women's basketball twenty years later; professional status and the current identity, built around the orange of "Les Tangos," came later still. The Palais des Sports du Prado, its home, was rebuilt in 2015, and capacity for basketball nights rose from around 3,100 to just over 5,000.

Among the players who wore the colours, Céline Dumerc is the name most closely tied to the club's identity.
