Goyang

In June 2023 a professional basketball club was thrown out of the Korean Basketball League for failing to pay its players. A month later the Daemyung Sono Group bought the club, settled the debts, and put it back on the floor for the 2023–24 season under its current name.

The instability was not new. What started in 1996 as the Dongyang Confectionary Basketball Team moved to Daegu the following year as the Tongyang Orions, was restructured into the Daegu Orions in 2003, then shifted north to Goyang in 2011, changing its name twice more before the 2022 sale set off the crisis. Through the Orion years the team wore orange and black; the Skygunners play in baby blue, navy blue and white, at the Goyang Gymnasium, capacity 6,216.

The Orions era carries the club's best results: the KBL Championship in 2001–02 and again in 2015–16 as the Goyang Orion Orions, with the regular-season title added in both 2002 and 2003. A KBL Cup followed in 2020, under the Carrot Jumpers name that lasted barely a season. Games against the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters and the Suwon KT Sonicboom are known as the Gyeonggi Derby.

Kevin Quiambao is among the more recent arrivals to wear the Skygunners' colours.
