Wonju DB

The Wonju DB Promy Arena seats 4,600, a capacity that has held for a franchise that has never left the city it was born in — the only club in the Korean Basketball League that can say so. Wonju sits at the foot of Chiaksan Mountain, and that geography gave the team its lasting nickname, Mountain Fortress, coined in the 2011–12 season.

The identity underneath the name has shifted more than most. What started in 1996 as Naray Mobile Communication Basketball Team joined the KBL a year later and then passed through a string of corporate owners — Sambo, TG, Dongbu — before settling as Wonju DB Promy in 2017. Green, adopted in 2005, has stayed the club's colour since.

The three KBL Championships all came inside a five-year stretch in the mid-2000s, built around the group of players and staff drawn from Yongsan High School and Chung-Ang University, a concentration close enough to earn the group its own nickname, the Yongsan Mafia. Kim Joo-sung was part of that generation and never really left: he then returned years later as head coach. His number hangs retired alongside Hur Jae's number 9.

That rivalry aside, the club's current business is more recent silverware: the KBL Cup, won in 2024 against Suwon KT Sonicboom.
