Jämtland Basket

Doremus Bennerman left Östersund twice and came back once: first from 1995 to 1998, then again for a single season in 2007–08, remembered as one of the best imports the club has had. Marcus Liberty, who had already played in the NBA, spent the 1997–98 season on the same roster.

Jämtland Basket did not start under its current name. The section began in 1956 inside the multi-sport club IF Castor, later ran as Jämtland Ambassadors, and folded into bankruptcy in 1998. It was rebuilt the following year as Jämtland Basket, also known as KFUM Jämtland Basket, and worked its way back to the top flight by 2000.

The one trophy in the cabinet came in 2011–12, the Swedish Cup. A league title has eluded the club longer: its first final came only in 2021–22, lost to Norrköping Dolphins. Against BC Luleå and Umeå BSKT, the fixture carries its own name, the Norrderby, the clearest marker of where the club sits on the map — the north, playing the north.

Home games are played at Östersunds Sporthall, known locally as Nya Sporthallen or Tegeltemplet, a hall that holds 1,700 under the club's blue and white, with a moose on the badge that gave the team its nickname, Älgarna.
