Swans Gmunden

The Volksbank-Arena Gmunden seats 2,200.

The club grew out of Union Gmunden, whose basketball section began in 1965. The first match followed in the spring of 1966. Relegation came in 1995, and the Swans needed two years to return, going up again in 1997. The years after that were harder than the demotion. Only in 2005 did the first league title arrive, and it was followed by two more, in 2006 and 2007.

One player ran through much of that stretch. De'Teri Mayes, an American-born guard who became Austrian, led the team from 1999 to 2011.

The Swans took the league back in 2021 and 2023 under Anton Mirolybov. In 2021 the forward Enis Murati, who spent more than nine seasons with the club, was named the league's best player. Thomas Crab took over the bench in 2024.

Closer to home there is the Oberösterreich-Derby against the Raiffeisen Flyers Wels. Both clubs are from Upper Austria, and in recent years the two have dominated the league between them.

Of the three national competitions, the Super Cup is the one the Swans have made their own: they have won it ten times.
