TFSE-MTK Women

Budapest basketball still carries the old rivalries of the NB I/A era, when TFSE-MTK's predecessor traded titles with the capital's other big names year after year through the 1960s and into the 1970s. That team, simply MTK then, won nine championships between 1961 and 1974 and added seven Hungarian Cups in the same stretch.

The identity has not stayed still. Women's basketball at MTK began in 1945, decades after the parent sports club itself, and in 1975 the section merged with Vörös Meteor to form MTK-VM, a name that added two more league titles, in 1976 and 1988, and a Cup in 1978 before it, too, gave way. The current name dates only to 2019, when MTK entered a partnership with the Hungarian University of Sports Science, becoming TFSE-MTK. Under that name the club has yet to add a championship of its own, playing instead in the shadow of what MTK and MTK-VM built before it.

The blue and white kit carries through every version of the name, and the supporters still call the team Kék-fehérek, the Blue and Whites, regardless of which sponsor or partner sits in front of the initials. The club competes in the EuroCup Women alongside its domestic league fixtures.

Games are played at the MTK Kosárlabda Csarnok in the Városmajor district of Budapest, a hall that seats around 500 and keeps the atmosphere close to the court rather than distant from it.
