The Novomatic Aréna Sopron holds only 2,200 people for a basketball match. It is where Sopron Basket has built the most decorated run in Hungarian women's basketball.

The team traces its roots to 1921, when it began as the women's section of Soproni Vasutas Sportegylet, the local railway workers' sports club. Under its various sponsor names, most recently Sopron Basket and before that Uniqa Sopron, it has since won the NB I/A championship 17 times, most recently in 2025, and the Magyar Kupa a record 13 times.

None of that matched what happened in Istanbul in the 2021–22 season, when Sopron beat Fenerbahçe 60–55 to win the EuroLeague Women final. Gabby Williams took the Final Four MVP award, but it was Zsófia Fegyverneky, a product of the club's own Soproni Darazsak Akadémia who had already spent over a decade in the shirt, who scored the point that sealed it. Sopron had been there before and come up short, losing the 2018 final to UMMC Ekaterinburg, and reaching the Final Four in 2009 and 2019 only to finish fourth both times. The academy that produced Fegyverneky has kept feeding the first team since, with Bernadett Határ following the same path into the national side.

Domestically, none of it comes easy. Győri Audi ETO meets Sopron in the derby the Hungarian press calls the "megyei rangadó," while Pécs's PINKK-Pécsi 424 has stayed the other name Sopron supporters watch for on the fixture list.
