The senior women's side did not grow out of a breakaway or a merger but out of a decision by the Győri Kosárlabda Club to hand its youth teams to a new project, built in partnership with Széchenyi István University. The club took shape in 2005, and within seven years had reached the top: the 2011–12 season brought the NB I/A title and the Magyar Kupa in the same year.

A bus crash near Kapuvár killed head coach Ákos Fűzy and club director Péter Tapodi. The team did not withdraw from the EuroLeague Women campaign that followed.

A second Magyar Kupa final appearance came in 2013, and another as recently as 2024–25, but both ended in defeat, and the domestic double of 2012 has not been repeated. The 2025–26 season brought financial trouble and a 15-match losing streak, and the club finished 11th.
