Ujbuda BEAC Women

The double came in 1989-90, when a squad built largely from amateur university students took both the Hungarian Championship and the Hungarian Cup, beating Tungsram SC 73-69 in the final. Pál Buttás coached that team; its best-known player, Judit Balogh, went on to 223 caps for Hungary and two European bronze medals before returning to BEAC as head coach in 2004.

The women's section has carried the club's name since well before that, playing in the top flight of Hungarian basketball continuously from 1964. There was a gap in identity rather than in competition: between 1995 and 2000 the team operated under Ferencvárosi TC during a restructuring, and BEAC treats the spell as a loan rather than a break, keeping 1898 as its founding year regardless.

That year traces back to Baron Loránd Eötvös, whose university athletic club gave the team its initials and, eventually, its double-barrelled modern name, ELTE-BEAC Újbuda, tying it to Eötvös Loránd University and the Újbuda district it now represents. A basketball academy, running since 2013 and accredited in 2018, feeds the senior side from underneath.

Sopron Basket and Pécs remain the clubs BEAC measures itself against from the era of national titles, but the sharper needle these days is Vasas Akadémia, the Budapest derby that draws attention regardless of league position.

Home games are played in yellow and black at the Ludovika Aréna, a hall seating 1,326 in Budapest.
