Duga began in 2015, when a handful of basketball people in Šabac decided the town needed a women's club of its own and started out in the local leagues. Promotion came within two years, to the Second Women's League of Serbia, and in June 2020, five years after it was founded, the club went up to the First Women's League of Serbia — the top domestic flight.

The name plays on the club's own: "Duga" means rainbow in Serbian, and the nickname "Duge" has stuck accordingly, echoed in a blue, pink and white identity. The club has since added a regional dimension, competing in the WABA League, and in 2023–2024 it reached the WABA Super League after finishing fourth in Group B.

The squad has carried players with wider résumés, among them Olga Stepanović, a captain who came through Partizan and Vojvodina before spells in Albania and Cyprus, and the academy has sent the Vujić sisters into the Serbian under-18 setup.

What Duga has not done is win anything: no national championship, no cup.
