Csurgói

Csurgói Kézilabda Klub took shape in November 1992, when a sports association was registered in the small town of Csurgó. Much of what followed traces back to Dr. János Varga, who has driven the project for more than 25 years, with his son Dániel now running things as executive director. The climb was slow: promotion arrived only with the 2007-08 NB I/B title, sending Csurgói into the Nemzeti Bajnokság I for the first time, where they finished ninth on debut in 2008-09.

The club's best spell came in 2012-13 and 2013-14, when it took bronze in the league and in the Magyar Kupa in the same stretch, then reached the group stage of the EHF Cup. Names from that era carry weight in Csurgó, among them Vladimir Vranješ, who later moved on to HSG Wetzlar, and the Serbian pivot Alem Toskić, who arrived in 2018, played two seasons, and stayed on afterwards as head coach.

None of it has come without strain. In March 2020, after a poor run of results, the club froze salaries to get through a financial squeeze, and stayed up regardless. Matches against Balatonfüredi and MOL Tatabánya have grown into fixtures on the calendar, fierce enough to be treated as derbies despite the geography. The team still plays in front of 1,200 seats at the Sótonyi László Sportcsarnok, in blue and yellow, captained now by Ádám Vasvári. By the 2026-27 season, Csurgói will have logged 15 straight years in the top flight.
