Police Sports Club

Police Park Ground sits on Havelock Road in Narahenpita, a ground built for around a thousand spectators rather than crowds, and it doubles as the club's own department fixture — the Sri Lanka Police cricket section has played there since the outfit took shape in 1995, debuting in first-class cricket that same season. Black remains the club colour, and in Colombo's press the side goes by "The Cops", a nickname that has stuck as firmly as the badge itself.

Two names carry the club's cricketing weight in different eras. Lasith Malinga wore the colours during his playing days, lending the ground a name recognised well beyond Narahenpita. More recently it was Ajantha Mendis, the mystery spinner, who captained the side before he retired in 2019.

Police Sports Club plays across the Major League Tournament, the Major Club Limited Over Tournament, the Major Club T20 Tournament and the Major Club Emerging 3-Day Tournament, and their sharpest contests come against Colombo Cricket Club. That rivalry decided both ends of recent seasons: in 2023/24 Police shared the Major League Tournament title with Sinhalese Sports Club after the final was drawn, and in 2025 they reached the final of the Major Club Limited Over Tournament only to lose it to Colombo Cricket Club.

None of it changes where the club is rooted — a small ground off Havelock Road, in a city where the department's own team still turns out under its own name.
