9 de Julio Rafaela and Douglas Haeig played out a goalless draw in the Winners Stage of the Torneo Federal A on Saturday evening. The match ended 0-0 after ninety minutes, a result that extends 9 de Julio Rafaela's recent struggles while halting Douglas Haeig's momentum from their previous victory over the same opposition.
The first notable incident came in the seventh minute when a home player received a yellow card for a reckless challenge. Douglas Haeig responded with controlled patience, and it was fitting that their only card arrived in the thirty-eighth minute when a forward was booked for pulling back a runner. By then, the pattern was clear.
Douglas Haeig dominated possession with 82 per cent of the ball, launching 121 attacks against 104 from the hosts. They registered twelve shots on target compared to eleven for 9 de Julio Rafaela, yet neither side found the net. To be fair, the statistics tell only part of the story — twelve shots on target for each side, yet zero goals, suggests both defences held firm when it mattered.
9 de Julio Rafaela arrive at this point in the season with three wins, two draws and one loss from six games, sitting third on eleven points. Douglas Haeig sit sixth with eight points from the same number of fixtures. The gap between them is three points, and this draw keeps it that way.
What stands out is not the scoreline but the disconnect between dominance and reward. Douglas Haeig controlled the game for long periods, but control without conversion is a familiar frustration. 9 de Julio Rafaela, by then quietly comfortable under pressure, showed they have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this kind of result.
