Match report
Umecit secured a 3-1 victory over Herrera in the Panama Football League Apertura, round 8, at Herrera's home ground on Saturday evening. The visitors took control early and held on despite a spirited second-half push from the hosts. And here's the thing, the result keeps Umecit in third while Herrera remain rooted near the bottom of the table.
Almanza opened the scoring for Herrera in the twelfth minute before Peralta equalised for Umecit just seven minutes later. The visitors then turned the game around, with Almanza netting his second in the thirty-second minute and Villarreal adding a fourth in the thirty-third. Three yellow cards for Herrera — Rivera, De Gracia and Castro — suggested growing frustration as the half progressed.
Umecit's away win was the call we made beforehand, and the confidence level sat at 53 per cent. By then the shift was visible: Herrera's high press met disciplined transitions, and Umecit's wider play found the spaces between the full-backs. The visitors' 55 per cent possession and seven shots on target told the story better than the 45 per cent share the hosts managed.
Substitutions arrived in waves after the break. Triana came on for Herrera in the forty-sixth minute, while Umecit introduced Murillo and Palmezano together in the sixty-first. Gomez made two appearances for the hosts, entering in the seventieth and being replaced himself in the seventy-third. Peralta was withdrawn in the same window, and Castillo replaced an unnamed Herrera player in the eighty-third. Almanza's late entry in the eighty-sixth gave the home side one last chance.
Umecit's 25 points from 16 games puts them three places clear of Herrera's eight-point haul. The visitors have now kept an unbeaten run going, extending it beyond the midweek draw with Verragas. Herrera, meanwhile, sit sixteenth in form with only one win from sixteen outings — and the goal difference tells you everything you need to know about their season so far.
