Nanaweding secured a comfortable 6:2 victory over Morland City in the 18th round of the Premier League Victoria 2, played at the weekend. The away side ran out clear winners despite conceding twice, while the hosts struggled to find any rhythm against a disciplined opposition.
Nanaweding struck first through S. Lupino in the 37th minute, taking the lead with a composed finish. A. McPhee doubled the advantage in the 39th and 42nd minutes, before M. Whatley added a fourth in the 47th. Morland City pulled one back through M. Cannatelli in the 56th, but McPhee struck again in the 57th to restore the three-goal cushion.
The visitors showed no signs of easing off, with I. Georgopoulos extending the margin in the 81st minute. An unnamed goal followed in the 82nd, before L. Mackie completed the scoring in the 83rd. Morland City's second goal came in response, but it was too little too late against a Nanaweding side that dominated possession and chances.
The result leaves Morland City rooted to 14th place with 26 games played, two wins, eight draws and 16 defeats for just 14 points. Nanaweding sit a better off in 11th, having accumulated 29 points from eight victories, five draws and 13 losses. The gap between the two sides remains significant in the table.
Morland City's recent form offers little comfort, having lost seven of their last ten matches across all competitions. Their last outing ended in a heavy 7:1 defeat to Whittlesea United, while Nanaweding have also shown vulnerability, losing their previous two games 1:0 to Box Hill and Bayside Argonauts respectively.
