Spišskí Rybári kept their home record alive with an 87:75 victory over Komárno on Wednesday in the Extraliga. The hosts took control early and never looked back, improving to 14 wins after 36 games while Komárno dropped to 17 defeats. We'd called for a home win at 55 per cent confidence and that's exactly where it landed.
Rybári shot 34 from 69 in the field and found their range from distance with seven successful three-pointers out of 24 attempts. Komárno matched them from deep, hitting eight from 23, but couldn't convert enough inside to stay competitive. The visitors committed 23 personal fouls compared to 15 for the hosts, which told you everything about the physical nature of the game.
And here's the thing — the difference came in ball movement. Rybári recorded 20 assists against 12 for Komárno, moving the ball when the defense collapsed. They also won the rebound battle 40 to 33, grabbing 14 offensive boards to give themselves extra possessions. To be fair, Komárno did get five steals to four, but couldn't turn that into meaningful scoring runs.
The statistics tell a straightforward story. Rybári shot 49.3 per cent from the field and 29.2 from three, while Komárno managed 44.0 and 34.8 respectively. Both teams were similar at the free-throw line — 60.0 per cent for the hosts, 64.3 for the visitors. But those percentage gaps added up across 40 minutes.
By then Komárno had already lost ground. They came into the fixture fifth in the table with 19 wins, while Rybári sat eighth with 14. This result closes the gap slightly, though the hosts still trail by five places. The visitors have now lost three of their last five, including Tuesday's 74:81 defeat to Inter Basket.
Rybári's form has tightened up since their April struggles. They won 96:82 against BC Svít last week and have shown they can hold their own at home. Komárno will look to bounce back away from home next, but Wednesday's outcome showed why the Extraliga remains unpredictable when the table suggests otherwise.
