Diogenes

Diogenes's route into the Santos first team ran through the club's Sub-23 side rather than a headline transfer. Born in Itapetininga, he began at Taboão da Serra before spells at Internacional and Avaí, moving to Santos in 2020 to play in the youth ranks. He was promoted to the professional squad in 2021, and with the junior side he was runner-up in the 2022 São Paulo Youth Cup.

For much of his time at the club, Diogenes has occupied the position every goalkeeper knows but few enjoy: third or second choice, waiting behind teammates rather than starting. His first-team debut did not come until 2024, and appearances since have been rare — two competitive matches in total, a Série B win over Ituano in 2024 and a Brasileirão fixture against Atlético Mineiro in 2025.

Those two games have still brought him a medal. Santos won the Série B title in 2024, and Diogenes was part of the squad that clinched it, giving him a championship credit despite his limited minutes on the pitch.
