Nikita Solodchenko

Nikita Solodchenko's route to Brazilian football began far from any academy spotlight. Born in Krasnodar, he came through the youth ranks at Kuban before leaving Russia altogether, spending several years working through amateur football in Spain with Jove Español, Villena and UD Juventud.

The break that turned him professional came not in Europe but in Central America. In 2020 Solodchenko signed with Walter Ferretti in Nicaragua, making his debut as a professional on 2 February that year. It marked the first senior contract of his career after years in the lower amateur tiers.

He then returned to Spain's amateur circuit, turning out for Algezares and CD Monterrubio, before his career took another unexpected turn with a move to Brazil. At Santos, where he now wears the number 7 shirt, Solodchenko has featured in both the Brasileirão and the Copa Sudamericana, appearing in 12 matches so far this season.

A right-footed forward, he has yet to open his goal-scoring account at the club, with his 12 appearances totalling 204 minutes on the pitch. The path that took him from Kuban's academy through Spanish amateur sides and a spell in Nicaragua to one of Brazil's best-known clubs is, by itself, an unusual one for a Russian-born player of his generation.
