Athletic Club MG U20

Athletic Club MG U20 works through the Campeonato Mineiro Sub-20 each season inside a structure that answers directly to the senior side in São João del-Rei, one of several base categories the club runs rather than a standalone outfit. The state's youth competition has gone to bigger names in recent years — América Mineiro, Cruzeiro, Corinthians, Atlético Mineiro have all lifted it since 2019 — and Athletic has stayed a regular entrant without reaching those finals.

The senior club dates to 27 June 1909, old enough that the black-and-white shirts have carried the nickname Alvinegro long before anyone now on the U20 roster was born; the club anthem still calls out the white and the black by name. People outside Minas Gerais sometimes mix it up with Atlético Mineiro, a different club altogether in Belo Horizonte.

Home games are played at the Estádio Joaquim Portugal, known commercially as Arena Sicredi, which held as few as 2,500 before renovation work took it to 4,655. The club has talked about pushing capacity to 8,000 with an eye on a Série B campaign, though that expansion has not yet arrived.
