The 2020 Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-17 was decided across two cities, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, and it went to Botafogo's youth side over Athletico-PR.

The pattern since has been regional. In 2017 the side drew 2:2 with Flamengo in the deciding match of the Taça Rio Sub-17 and took the trophy; eight years later, in July 2025, it beat the same opponent 1:0 at Gávea to win the Campeonato Carioca Sub-17 . Two of the three honours on the board, then, were settled against Flamengo, one of them on Flamengo's own ground.

The team carries everything the senior club carries — the same black and white, the same badge, the same nickname, Fogão . There is no separate identity for the under-17s.

Day to day the side plays in front of a stand at the training base that holds 1 000.

Beyond the state championship the team enters the Copa do Brasil Sub-17 each season and has yet to win it.
