Brikama United

For four decades after Gambia crowned its first football champion in 1969, the title never left Banjul. Brikama United broke that run in 2011, the first club from outside the capital to win it.

The club itself was only eight years old at the time, formed in 2003 as a community project run by the Brikama Youth and Sports Association, BYSA, in the town of Brikama.

Home matches are played at Box Bar Mini Stadium, known locally simply as Box Bar, which holds 2,000. The team is nicknamed Sateyba Boys and plays in green and orange.

The 2011 title carried Brikama United into the CAF Champions League the following year, where they went out in the preliminary round to Senegal's US Ouakam. Five years later came the Gambia FF Cup, won 1-0 over Bombada United in the final, a result that sent the club into the 2017 CAF Cup. Suleiman Kuyateh coached the side through both of those wins, holding the job from 2010 to 2017.

A second league title followed in 2018/19 under Modou Lamin Nyassi, still in charge as of 2026. Ebou Kanteh, who played for the club across two spells between 2012 and 2018, went on to represent Gambia's national team; academy product Hamidou Bojang later moved to Senegal's ASC Linguère.

Money grew tight after the 2019 championship. In 2023/24, Brikama United finished ninth.
