Greater Tomorrow

Greater Tomorrow go into the new First Division season off a mid-table finish, 12th of 16 sides, the kind of campaign that draws little attention on its own. What follows the club into it is a trophy: the Gambia FA Cup, lifted for the first time in its history last season after a penalty shoot-out against TMT FC, won 3-2 following a goalless final.

The club has carried the word "Academy" in its full name since it was founded in Brikama in 2008. James Gomes came through those ranks before moving into Danish football with AC Horsens. Amadou Sowe, a forward from the same generation, stayed on and leads the line now.

Home games are played at Box Bar Mini Stadium, a ground that holds around 2,000. Brikama itself supplies the sharpest fixture on the calendar: Bombada FC, based in the same town, and games between the two are known locally as the Brikama derby. Real de Banjul, Fortune FC and Brikama United fill out the rest of a rivalry list that keeps the fixtures busy, played out in front of a support used to seeing the team in blue and white.

No league title has come with the Cup win, and First Division form since has stayed ordinary. Defending the trophy and holding a mid-table place in the league are what this season is asking of Greater Tomorrow.
