Falcons

Abuko is a small town near Serrekunda, and its football club takes the name of the place, playing its home matches at Abuko Stadium since the beginning. Falcons FC did not start out chasing trophies. Musa Jammeh, who had worked in security for the Gambian Football Federation, founded the club in 2010 as a project for boys from Abuko's poorer neighbourhoods who had no team of their own. The club is also known in full as Abuko Falcons Football Club.

Falcons play in blue and white and are known locally as the Blue Army.

One claim about the club needs correcting. Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson is often said to have started out at Falcons FC. He did not: his early football was played at ASC Tiléne and Casa Sports, both in Senegal, with no link to Abuko.

The first silverware came at local level, in 2017, when Falcons beat Farakono on penalties to win the SESDO Championship. The bigger prize followed in the 2020/21 season, when Falcons won the GFA League Second Division and were promoted to Gambia's top flight for the first time — 10 years after Musa Jammeh had founded the club in 2010.
