Samger

Cherno Samba played for Gambia's national team, then in 2002 turned that experience into a club of his own: Samger FC, based in Kanifing, on the edge of Serrekunda, run with a former international's sense of what a young player needs to catch the eye of the national set-up.

That sense is what the club has become known for locally — an outlet that has sent players through to Gambia's national sides more consistently than it has produced results of its own. Home matches are played at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium, which holds 5,000, and the team wears red and blue.

Trophies have been scarce. The Gambian Super Cup, won in 2008, is the only honour in the club's history. No Gambian league title and no GFA Challenge Cup sit beside it — more than two decades after Samba founded the club, a domestic league or cup title is still missing.
