GPA

By the late 1980s Gambia Ports Authority FC had stopped existing. When it came back in 1996, it did not simply reform under its old badge — it grew out of another club, Falcons FC, before taking the GPA name once more.

The name reaches back to 1973, when the club was set up as a works team for the Gambia Ports Authority in Banjul, the capital and the country's only significant harbour; the nickname, The Ferry Boys, still points to the trade. Home matches are played at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium, which holds 5,000.

GPA has won the Gambian league six times — 1984, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2015 — and the Gambia Cup in 1975, 1980 and 2007.

The academy has sent players abroad rather than kept them: Sainey and Sanna Nyassi both left for Major League Soccer in the United States, and Saihou Gassama moved on to Real Zaragoza in Spain.

Fixtures against Real de Banjul, the other major club in the capital, are known as the Banjul derby; Wallidan is the rival GPA supporters mark just as closely.

GPA has not won the league since 2015.
