Confianca PB U20

Lúcio Surubim stood in goal at the Toca do Papão in 1997 when Confiança de Sapé won the Campeonato Paraibano, the only time a club from the Brejo Paraibano region has taken the state's top title. That season gave the club its lasting nickname, Bicho-Papão do Interior.

The senior side never repeated that run at the top level, and when Confiança next lifted a trophy it came in the second division, in 2025, twenty-eight years after 1997. The Under-20 side carries a smaller piece of that same pattern: in 2025 it reached the final of the Campeonato Paraibano Sub-20, finishing runners-up to Esporte de Patos.

Sapé sits in the Brejo Paraibano, and Confiança's closest rival, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube of Itaporanga, comes from the same stretch of the state, the two sides crossing paths in recent state championships and youth cups. Red and black run through the club's identity, from the "Rubro-Negro" tag to a home kit built around a black shirt and red socks.

Before any of that, in 1953, the team was born out of a split inside Atlético, the amateur side that had represented the town until then.
