Mixto

Adriano Gabiru turned up at Mixto in 2010 with a winner's medal from the 2006 Club World Cup, won with Internacional. He arrived at a club in poor shape. Mixto had taken the state title in 2008, and in 2009 they were relegated from Série C, the third tier of Brazilian football. A player of that pedigree in Cuiabá was a sign of how far the club had slipped from the years between 1976 and 1985, when it played in the Brazilian first and second divisions.

The state championship is where Mixto's weight sits. They have won the Campeonato Mato-Grossense 25 times, more than anyone, including two runs of four consecutive titles, 1951–1954 and 1979–1982. After 2008 the trophy stayed away for 18 years. In 2026 they ended the wait, beating Luverdense on penalties in the final.

The club's shape had changed by then. In 2022 Mixto became a Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF, a club run as a company) under Grupo Gazeta, and the same year the Estádio Presidente Eurico Gaspar Dutra, known as Dutrinha, finished a renovation that left it with 9,000 seats. In 2024 the club signed the concession to run the ground itself.

The women's side has made steadier progress than the men's did in those years. It has won the state title nine times, the last four in a row from 2020 to 2023. In 2023 it also won the Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino Série A3, beating Remo in the final and earning promotion to Série A2.

Mixto's fiercest rivalry is with Operário Futebol Clube, and their meetings are the Clássico dos Milhões. Cuiabá Esporte Clube and Dom Bosco also count among the opponents that the "Tigre da Vargas" treats as more than a routine fixture.
