Pietà Hotspurs

Valeri Bojinov once wore the white shirt in Pietà, a name better known from Fiorentina and the Bulgarian national side. Founded in 1968 after an earlier version of the side, active from 1949, had folded eight years before, Pietà Hotspurs took the black-and-white colours and the nickname that stuck. The breakthrough came in 1994, when the club reached the Maltese Premier League for the first time, and two seasons later it went further still, winning the Maltese First Division title in 1995–96.

Nearly three decades passed before the next one. In the 2024–25 season Pietà Hotspurs beat Valletta FC 1–0 to lift the BOV Challenge Cup, a first cup win of that stature in the club's history.

Santa Lucia FC, from neighbouring Marsa, provide the derby, though the fixture has never picked up a name of its own. With no ground to call home, Pietà Hotspurs play their matches at borrowed venues, most often the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Ħamrun.
