Rancho Cordova's youth game began as a small operation in 1978. San Juan SC never stayed at that scale. It built itself into one of the country's recognised girls' soccer programmes — Shea Ryan moved on to Kansas and later Texas A&M, Molly McBride to Florida, Jordan Fjelstad to Kansas.
The step that changed what the club actually is came in December 2024, when San Juan SC announced it was leaving the youth-only bracket behind and entering pre-professional soccer: a women's side in the USL W League and a men's side in USL League Two, both starting in the 2025 season. The women play at Merritt College Soccer Stadium in Oakland, a ground that seats 3,451 and sits well outside Rancho Cordova itself. The men, meanwhile, have picked up a Northern California rivalry with San Francisco City FC, though nobody has bothered to give it a derby name yet.
Green and navy carried over as the club's colours into this new tier, black and white kept for away days. What has not carried over is any silverware — the women's side took the field in the USL W League for the first time only in 2025.
