Sporting Cristal Women

Lizandro Barbaran left Sporting Cristal's women's team once with three titles behind him.

The distance between those two points is longer than it sounds. Sporting Cristal was among the founding clubs of Peru's Primera División de Fútbol Femenino in 1996, finishing runner-up in its first season before Barbaran's side won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999. In 2000 the club added the Campeonato Sudamericano Interclubes de Fútbol Femenino, beating Sport Coopsol 2-0 in the final, though the same year brought a domestic runner-up finish to that same rival. After 2000, the team stopped competing in the top flight altogether, absent from official FPF competitions for years until the club rebuilt a women's side from scratch in 2018.

Barbaran's second spell drew on players who had come up through that rebuilding, among them Bárbara Mori, a forward who won two Peruvian under-16 titles with the academy before returning to the first team in 2024.

The team plays at Estadio Alberto Gallardo in San Martín de Porres, officially listed at 10,350 seats, though safety restrictions usually cap attendance closer to 9,315. Known as Los Celestes for their sky-blue and white, Sporting Cristal sits with Alianza Lima and Universitario as one of the only three clubs to have played every season of the Liga Femenina since 2021, though it is Alianza and Universitario who claim the recognised women's Clásico between them.
