Víkingur II

Leirvík sits on Eysturoy, a small settlement whose football identity long ran through LÍF Leirvík before the club merged into Víkingur Gøta in November 2007, taking the formal name Víkingur on 4 February 2008. The reserve side inherited LÍF's place in the 1. deild, and it is there, one tier below the top flight, that Víkingur II has made its home ever since.

The arrangement has produced an odd repeated result. Faroese rules bar reserve teams from promotion regardless of where they finish, so when Víkingur II won the 1. deild in 2020, the title stayed in the trophy cabinet and the team stayed put, because the first team was already established in the Betrideildin. The same thing happened again in 2024. For a club playing one level down, winning the league has become something closer to routine than a stepping stone.

Between 2015 and 2020, Jóhan Poulsen managed the side through the run that produced the first of those two championships, a five-year spell that shaped the team just as it began winning consistently.

The colours are borrowed rather than chosen: light blue and black came from GÍ Gøta, the merger's other founding club, and both the first team and the reserves still wear them in the same combination, light blue shirts over black shorts. Home games are played at Sarpugerði Stadium, a ground that holds 1,600, with 440 of those seats under cover, a modest setting for a team that keeps collecting a title it can never use to move up.
