ÍF II

ÍF II are lining up in the 2. deild for the 2026 campaign, the third tier of Faroese football and a step down from the 1. deild football the reserve side has bounced in and out of over the years. As the second string of Ítróttarfelag Fuglafjarðar, the team exists in the shadow of the first XI, feeding players up rather than chasing silverware of its own — the closest it has come is third place in the 2. deild, a finish it managed in 1989, 1993, 1999, 2001 and again in 2021.

The parent club, formed on 25 March 1946 in Fuglafjørður, has had the better of it. ÍF took the Faroese championship in 1979 and has been promoted out of the 1. deild four times, in 1984, 1987, 2003 and 2018, though the Faroe Islands Cup has eluded it through six lost finals stretching from 1975 to 2011.

Both sides play out of Í Fløtugerði, and both have drawn from the same family for their best-known name. Abraham Løkin, who turned out for ÍF across scattered spells from 1976 to 1999, was named the Faroe Islands' Golden Player in 2003, an award covering the previous 50 years. His son Bogi Løkin went on to be counted among the finest to wear the club's colours, with another son, Karl, also making the first team. Høgni Zachariassen took a different route through the club, spending more than a decade in the senior side after coming through the reserves.

ÍF's oldest rivalry runs against HB Tórshavn, a fixture that carries the weight of a small fishing town against the capital rather than any shared postcode. For the second team, the sharper number is closer to home: 10th, where ÍF II finished in the 1. deild in 2017.
