Viking II made light work of NSI II on Saturday, running out 4-1 winners in the 1. deild. The visitors had been in fine form, while their hosts were digging themselves deeper into trouble. By then the gulf between them was obvious in the table, and it showed on the pitch.
And here's the thing — the match never really got close. F. Jarnskor opened the scoring in the twenty-second minute, before R. Hansen doubled the advantage just before half-time. NSI II were pinned back, unable to find any rhythm against a side that knew exactly what it was doing.
The second half only confirmed what the first half had established. M. Danielsen restored the two-goal cushion in the fifty-second minute, and P. Jarnskor added a fourth in the eighty-second. To be fair, NSI II had a late consolation in stoppage time, but by then the result was never in doubt.
What stood out was how Viking II controlled the tempo. They didn't need to force anything, just kept the game where they wanted it. The old head of the squad settled them down when the visitors tried to push back, and that experience told.
NSI II sit sixteenth with twenty-five points from twenty-two games, while Viking II sit second with fifty-one. The gap between them is twenty-six points, and after this result it looks like more than that. The clean-sheet run for NSI II came to an end, but they had no right to expect one.
