NSÍ II secured a convincing 4-1 victory over EB/Streymur II in the 1. deild regular season, round 22, on Saturday 6 September 2026. The home side had been favourites for the result, and given their recent form, the confidence level around a home win was sitting at 64 per cent. And here's the thing — those sorts of predictions don't mean much when you've watched a team lose 5-1 and 4-0 in the two weeks prior. But by then, the home side had found something.
J. Signarsson opened the scoring early, finding the net in the sixth minute. It was a crisp finish that caught EB/Streymur off guard, and the visitors were still trying to settle into shape when J. Mortensen doubled the lead just before the quarter-hour mark. Mortensen struck again in the 24th minute, and suddenly the home side were in control. To be fair, EB/Streymur's defence had looked fragile all afternoon, conceding too much space between the lines.
The turning point came in the 58th minute when S. Mariusarson was sent off for the visitors. The red card changed everything — you could see the home side's players shift their positioning immediately, pressing higher up the pitch. T. Miezan made no mistake from the advantage in the following minute, and then Mortensen completed his brace in the 62nd, putting the game beyond doubt. J. Hojgaard added a fifth goal in the 84th minute, a moment that felt almost ceremonial at that point.
NSÍ II sit sixth in the table with 25 points from 22 games — seven wins, four draws, and eleven defeats. EB/Streymur II remain in 10th place with just eight points from two wins and two draws. The gap between them is significant, and the visitors have now lost 18 of their 22 matches this season. That's not a season you recover from.
What stands out isn't the scoreline so much as the sequence. Three goals in the opening 24 minutes, then a red card, then three more after. The home side had been inconsistent — those heavy defeats against TB and Suðuroy were difficult to watch — but there was a sense of organisation returning. The old head settled them down, and they took their chances.
