Locally it is still called Abnaa Abu Halifa, the sons of Abu Halifa.
The club has spent its history moving between Kuwait's top flight and the First Division rather than settling in either. It won promotion by topping the First Division in 2000/01, then again in 2009/10, and this past season, 2025/26, finished second in the same division to go back up once more. A top-flight title has never come. The closest the club got to a major trophy was the Emir Cup final of 1998/99, lost 2-1 to Al-Arabi.
Home games are played at Abu Halifa City Stadium, a ground that holds around 2,000.
