Shumen

By the end of the 2020/21 season it held both the Bulgarian championship and the Bulgarian Cup. Svetlozar Nachev and his brother Nikolay had brought it back seven years after it stopped operating in 2013 because of financial difficulties. Svetlozar is now the president.

The stoppage came at an awkward time. The club had just won three championships in a row, from 2009 to 2011, and before that it had only one title, from 1996.

The 2023 Cup final showed the current side at its best. Shumen beat Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa 25:15. Shumen won the Cup again in 2024.

The name Shumen 61 goes back to 1961, when S. Spasov and V. Terziyski introduced handball to the city. The club has since played as Shumen and as SKH DIU Shumen before taking its present name. Its oldest fixture is the "Derby of the Northeast" against Spartak Varna. Osam Lovech is the other regional opponent.

Home games are at Arena Shumen, which seats 1,494 for handball and can be expanded to 2,500 for concerts.
