Pirin

Pirin Blagoevgrad play in the A RHG, Bulgaria's top men's handball division.

The closest they have come was the Bulgarian Handball Cup in 2003, when they beat Vladislav Varna 30-23 in the final. Two more finals followed, both lost to the same opponent, Lokomotiv Varna: in 2005 after extra time, 32-31, and again in 2019, 27-19. The championship itself has stayed out of reach entirely; third place, reached in 2004 and 2005, remains the club's best league finish.

The team trains and plays at the Handball Hall inside the Sports Complex Pirin in Blagoevgrad. Supporters know the side as the Pirin Eagles, a name shared across the city's sports clubs and carried by the handball team as much as by anyone else wearing the colours.

European competition has featured too, with an EHF Cup campaign in the 1997/98 season standing as the men's team's outing on that stage. It came at a time when Blagoevgrad handball, on both the men's and women's sides, was pushing for recognition beyond Bulgaria's borders.

What the men's side has never managed, through cup finals won and lost, is the league title itself — the one honour that has stayed just beyond their grasp since Vladislav Varna were beaten on that day in 2003.
