The Colorado Eagles start the new season in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2025–26 they reached the Western Conference Final for the first time, having won the Pacific Division the year before. Mark Letestu, a former NHL forward, is the head coach.

The AHL is the third league the Eagles have played in, and they arrived in 2018 as champions. The Kelly Cup of 2017 was followed by another in 2018, in their last season in the ECHL. Only one other team had won it in consecutive years since 1997. They stepped up as the primary development affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Logan O'Connor came through Loveland and won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022. Nathan MacKinnon has used the Eagles for conditioning.

The club began in 2003 as an expansion side in the Central Hockey League, started by Ralph Backstrom, who had played for the Montreal Canadiens. The first preseason game, against the Oklahoma City Blazers, was on 11 October 2003. The Ray Miron President's Cup came in 2005 and again in 2007, so the CHL years already held two titles when the team moved to the ECHL in 2011. The name has not changed through any of the three leagues.

The arena on Arena Circle carried the Budweiser Events Center name until 2023 and is now the Blue Arena. It seats 5,089 for hockey, and the total capacity is 7,500.

The Chicago Wolves were the team that ended the Eagles' run in that conference final.
